May 2013

We have bittersweet news for all of you who have come to know and love Liza Creel, our MSGRC Project Manager. First, the sweet: Liza has been in a PhD program at Texas A&M Health Science Center for the past two years while also working full time at Texas Health Institute, the agency that manages our MSGRC grant. Because of her excellent work in the PhD program, Liza has been offered a position as a research associate while she continues her PhD coursework and research full time. Liza will be moving to College Station, Texas to pursue this dream, and we are proud of her and delighted for her as she moves toward a very bright future. Now comes the bitter part. This means that Liza will be leaving us at MSGRC, and we will miss her amazing organizational skills, energy, creativity and humor. Few people in the world are really irreplaceable, but we know there is only one Liza, and we will miss her sorely.

We will be recruiting a new MSGRC Project Manager over the next several weeks. Liza has created an amazing to-do list for all of us, and we'll be doing our best to get everything done on time. To that end, Donna Williams, MSGRC Project Coordinator, and Joyce Hooker, MSGRC Director of Regional Outreach, will take on some additional responsibilities. Kathy and Celia (the two of us who sign these messages) will work closely with Donna, Joyce and the THI staff to move things along smoothly. We'll be counting on our workgroup chairs and mini-project directors to let us know if something urgent has slipped through the cracks. As always, we know that our MSGRC members will let us know if something needs to be done and work patiently with us to get things right.

Message from Liza

I want to thank each of you for making the MSGRC what it is today. It has been my pleasure to partner with and learn from such a passionate, thoughtful, and committed community of people. Please do keep in touch (you can always reach me at and let me know if you ever find yourself in College Station. You can be sure that I'll be looking for any opportunity to hike and fish in the Rockies, and I hope that means I'll get to see you too!
