The MSGRC team recently headed to DC to attend the National Coordinating Center's (NCC) Annual Project Director/Project Manager. Much of the meeting focused on the data collected so far from the Provider and Consumer Surveys that were released as part of the National Needs Assessment. In our next PD message, we will have more updates to share with you on this work. In the meantime, please read on for a brief review of MSGRC news and activities.
Save the Date: MSGRC
MSGRC would like everyone to mark their calendars for our next Annual Meeting. We will be meeting in Phoenix, Arizona from April 14-16, 2015. We hope to again have the wonderful attendance and discussions that we have seen previous years. This year will be especially crucial in determining the future directions of the regional collaboratives and how MSGRC can best support genetic services in our eight states. We hope to see you there!
Primary Care Survey
Many of you are likely aware of the Genetics Provider Survey which has been distributed through the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG). MSGRC is aware that many clinicians in primary care have a significant role in the care of individuals with hereditary disorders and has adapted the ACMG survey for those working in primary care. We hope all of our primary care colleagues are able to complete this survey (link below) and share with colleagues. Your insight is invaluable.
Primary Care Provider Survey:
MSGRC Mapping Project
Many of the states in the MSGRC region face both provider shortages and geographic barriers that create a challenge in the provision of genetic services. In early 2015, MSGRC initiated research on the numbers and distribution of genetics providers and counselors throughout the region. The data collected and analyzed through this project underline both current barriers and possible considerations for future development of genetic services and resources targeting our frontier counties. Please follow the links to both our Project Poster and Methodologies.
With the holidays fast approaching, we hope many of you are able to enjoy memorable times with friends and family. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and we look forward to sharing many of the updates from the national meeting next month!
